Yossi Milo is excited to invite the public for a conversation between artist Alina Perez, curator Susanna Temkin, and writer Isabella Rafky on Thursday, March 6, 2024, at 6:30 PM.
On the occasion of Perez's exhibition Family Romance, the artist, alongside Temkin and Rafky, will discuss the inspirations and themes of fantasy, power, and emotional dynamics in her latest work. Considering their shared cultural backgrounds, the speakers will explore the specificity of Miami, Florida as a setting and a player within Family Romance, and explore how archetype, interiority, and desire play out in the works on view.

The talk is open to the public and free to attend, but space is limited and RSVPs are encouraged.
Susanna V. Temkin is Senior Curator at El Museo del Barrio in New York, and holds a PhD. from the Institute of Fines Arts, New York University. At El Museo, she has curated or co-curated exhibitions including the museum's fiftieth-anniversary exhibition, Culture and the People (2019); Estamos Bien - La Trienal (2020-2021); DOMESTICANX (2022); and currently on view, Flow States - La Trienal 2024. Prior to El Museo, she served as Assistant Curator at Americas Society in New York, as well as research and archive specialist at the Cecilia de Torres, Ltd., where she assisted in co-authoring the digital catalogue raisonné of artist Joaquín Torres-García.
Isabella Rafky is a Cuban-American arts writer based in Brooklyn. Originally from Miami, Florida, she studied art history with a focus on diasporic art of the Caribbean at Barnard College. Her writing has appeared in ARTNews, BOMB Magazine, Hyperallergic, and The Miami Herald.
Alina Perez’s work has been exhibited at the Taubman Museum of Art, Roanoke, VA; El Museo del Barrio, New York, NY; Atlanta Contemporary, GA; Arcadia Missa Gallery & Publishers, London, UK; Deli Gallery, New York, NY; James Cohan Gallery, New York, NY; Rachel Uffner, New York, NY; Company Gallery, New York, NY; and M+B, Los Angeles, CA. In 2017, Perez was a resident at the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, Madison, ME, and has attended residencies at the Fine Arts Works Center in Provincetown, MA, the Ox-Bow School of Art, Saugatuck, MI; and the Vermont Studio Center, Johnson, VT. Alina Perez received her BFA in Painting from the Rhode Island School of Design and her MFA in Painting and Printmaking from the Yale School of Art. The artist lives and works in New York, NY.
