Yossi Milo Gallery is pleased to announce First Look, the inaugural exhibition at its new ground-floor space located at 245 Tenth Avenue (between 24th and 25th Streets) in Chelsea. First Look will open to the public on Thursday, January 26th, with an inaugural reception and celebration on Thursday, February 16th from 6:00-8:00PM.
First Look is a curated show of photographs by artists whose first New York solo exhibitions were presented by Yossi Milo Gallery. These artists include Robert Bergman, Mohamed Bourouissa, Pieter Hugo, Simen Johan, Sze Tsung Leong, Loretta Lux, Yuki Onodera, Muzi Quawson, Mark Ruwedel, Alessandra Sanguinetti, Lise Sarfati, Jacob Aue Sobol, Alec Soth, Kohei Yoshiyuki and Liu Zheng. First Look is the first time that a large selection of the gallery's artists will be shown together, providing visitors with the opportunity to discover overarching concepts in the gallery's program since it opened in 2000.
After First Look concludes, the Gallery will open an exhibition of new work by Los Angeles-based photographer Mark Ruwedel. The exhibition, entitled Now it is Dark, will continue the artist's topographical documentation of the American West by focusing his sites on abandoned construction projects found in the Southern California desert landscape. The gold-toned silver prints show homes in various states of decay since they were deserted by their owners or builders since 2008. Now it is Dark opens on March 1st, with a reception from 6:00-8:00PM, and will include several series including Desert Houses, Dusk, Neighbors, and Built/Not Built: The Smithson Panoramas.
Yossi Milo Gallery is pleased to announce the addition of new artists to the Gallery program: Doug Rickard, Matthew Brandt, Mike Brodie and Chris McCaw. Doug Rickard's series, A New American Picture, was recently featured in the New Photography 2011 exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art, New York. In January, Matthew Brandt was named as an artist to watch in Forbes Magazine's 30 Under 30: Art and Design. Mike Brodie's monograph, A Period of Juvenile Prosperity, will be released by Twin Palms in Spring 2012, and a catalog of Chris McCaw's work is currently in production with Candela Books. Each artist will have their first New York solo exhibition in the new gallery.
