Yossi Milo Gallery is pleased to announce Pool Party, a summer group show on view from Wednesday, June 16, through Friday, August 20, 2004, with an opening reception on Wednesday, June 16, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.
Pool Party focuses on the quintessential summer trinity of water, sun and fun by presenting images of people at the pool. As a built alternative to the lake or seaside, the swimming pool offers diverse social possibilities for the scantily clad. In these images the allure of chlorinated water is twofold - there is the more democratic public pool where community members meet and fraternize, and there are private pools that allow for more exclusive interactions. The subject matter in the exhibition ranges from a hormonally charged spring break beauty competition, as in Lauren Greenfield's Becky, to discrete invitation-only soirees exemplified in Jeff Burton's photograph entitled Neighbors. Pool Party also enters the psychological realm, with Anthony Goicolea's coolly constructed self-portrait set within the glass walls of a natatorium.
Artists featured in the exhibition include Slim Aarons, Gail Albert-Halaban, Dave Anderson, Diane Arbus, Jeff Burton, Virginia Beahan & Laura McPhee, Peter Bialobrzeski, Mark Cohen, Paul D'Amato, Joe Deal, Geoffrey Fricker, Anthony Goicolea, Lauren Greenfield, Matthew Harnett, Simen Johan, William Lamson, Karine Laval, O.
