Yossi Milo Gallery is pleased to present Painting with Light, a group exhibition featuring abstract, process-driven photographs as varied in appearance, process and meaning as photography's more traditional forms of production. In the hands of this group of artists, the medium is reduced to its most essential and variable element: the reaction of a given surface to the presence of light. Freed from its role as indexical record-keeper, photographs made by alternative means, often without a camera, transform into records of their own production.
Painting with Light includes works by Marco Breuer, Richard Caldicott, Harry Callahan, Ellen Carey, Ben Cauchi, Gianfranco Chiavacci, Luuk de Haan, Susan Derges, Jessica Eaton, Bryan Graf, Gottfried Jäger, Aspen Mays, Robert McCann, Chris McCaw, Gjon Mili, Liz Nielsen, Lisa Oppenheim, Hanno Otten, Alison Rossiter, Tokihiro Sato, Assaf Shaham, Hiroshi Sugimoto, Tenesh Webber, and James Welling, among others. The exhibition runs concurrently with Karl Martin Holzhäuser's first solo exhibition at the gallery, Lichtmalerei, situating the rigorous experiments performed in his dark room in the 1980s in dialogue with a cross-section of contemporary works.
