February 7, 2023 marks the opening of the 15th installment of the Sharjah Biennial, “Thinking Historically in the Present,” curated by Hoor Al Qasimi. Hajjaj’s work is among the many vital contemporary artists presenting work in five cities across the United Arab Emirates. Building on the late Nigerian curator Okwui Enwezor’s concept of the “postcolonial constellation,” the 15th Sharjah Biennial platforms artists whose practices upend monolithic ideas of identity in art and history.
