Matthew Brandt's AgXBSB2023 (San Bernardino Forest) has been acquired by the Herbert F. Johnson Museum of Art at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY. The work is exemplary of Brandt's ongoing series Silver, a practice that marries liquid silver with silver gelatin prints. Each Silver print is given a light coating of liquid silver that illuminates the work, giving it a reflective quality that immerses viewers in the cool dark of a forest night. The chemical process of darkroom photography uses silver salts to create areas of dark and light when developed, and here, silver is free to run across the surfaces of the work in rivulets, drips, and pools.
