Photographs from Pieter Hugo's series Permanent Error are included in the group exhibition Man & Mining at the Museum Der Arbeit in Hamburg, Germany. On view through May 1, 2024, the exhibition explores the global implications of mining practices. Spanning both bracing looks at the consequences unsafe mines in the Global South and utopian visions of post-consumption societies, the exhibition shows the past and future of mining.
Pieter Hugo's Permanent Error series examines Agbogbloshie, the second-largest e-waste processing area in West Africa, located just outside Accra, Ghana. The series takes a close look at the apocalyptic appearance of the land, showing the final life stages of electronic waste imported from overseas and the people who live and work in this highly polluted environment.
