Yossi Milo is pleased to announce that Cuban-American artist Alina Perez will have her first solo exhibition with the gallery in January of 2025. In advance of Perez's forthcoming show, work by the artist will be exhibited at the upcoming edition of Untitled Art Miami Beach in December.
Perez’s first exhibition with Yossi Milo continues the artist’s explorations of familial narrative and the possibilities imagination brings for healing and action. In large-scale drawings depicting scenes and motifs from her own life, the artist directly addresses the dynamics of trauma and recollection. The works included in the exhibition range from intimate to grand in scale, shifting between expressive swathes of color, layered plays of material, and exactingly rendered form.
The artist will make her debut as part of Yossi Milo’s program at this year’s edition of Untitled Art Miami Beach. On the occasion of the fair’s thematic focus of “East Meets West,” the gallery will present a variety of artists from a range of geographic origins — including North America, Asia, Africa, and the Middle East.
"La Solita" (2024), a large-scale drawing by Perez, will be included among the works on view. The work shows a pair of lovers surrounded by flowers and backed by a booming speaker and glowing cityscape. Perez’s works oscillate between psychic and material dualities, using compositional strategies to represent the power generated by tensions in narrative. This work is deeply layered with gestural lines and intense areas of color, vibrating with motion and hue as the central pair draw one another close. Perez’s work is anchored by memories of her upbringing in Miami, Florida, centering stories local to the region among those from around the globe.
