Dallas Museum of Art acquires work by Sanlé Sory

Museum Acquisition
The Dallas Museum of Art has acquired Sanlé Sory's photograph "Belle de Jour" (1975), presented by Yossi Milo at this year's edition of the Dallas Art Fair.

The acquisition comes as part of the Dallas Art Fair Foundation Program, an annual gift from the Dallas Art Fair Foundation to fund the placement of works from the fair into the collection of the DMA. This year marks the ninth edition of the program, a collaborative effort which strengthens the connections between Dallas’ arts institutions and international galleries.

The young woman who posed for the camera in "Belle de Jour" is remembered by Sory: "This young lady was from the Farkan neighbourhood. She must have been around 16 years old... Headscarves were really trendy at that time. She must have come from a well-off family, as these items could be quite costly!"

"Belle de Jour" was exhibited in Sory's debut exhibition with Yossi Milo, Volta Photo. To learn more about the exhibition, click here.
