Alison Rossiter will participate in the 2025 FotoFocus, Cincinatti, OH, Fall Symposium: Photo-Economics, on Saturday, October 4, 2025, with a conversation with Lee Ann Daffner, Andrew W. Mellon Foundation Conservator of Photographs at The Museum of Modern Art, New York, NY. The Symposium runs from 10 AM - 8 PM; Rossiter and Daffner will speak at 12 PM.
The conversations in the morning section, Material Economics, will consider the materials at the heart of photographic practice—silver, platinum, bitumen, paper, and chemicals—and the economic, social, and environmental histories they carry. The afternoon section, Social Economics, examines photography’s role in communicating the human consequences of extractive capitalism, documenting and disseminating narratives ranging from post-industrial poverty to boom-time wealth.
