Works by Ibrahim Said at Homo Faber Biennial

Group Exhibition

Yossi Milo is excited to announce Ibrahim Said’s participation in the upcoming Homo Faber Biennial “An Island of Light.” A selection of four ceramic works by Said, one sculpture accompanied by three vases, will be presented as a group in tandem with 15 additional immersive installations in the historic grounds and buildings of Fondazione Giorgio Cini, in Venice, Italy, September 1through September 30.

The exhibition invites viewers to explore and reflect on the fundamental relationship between light, material, and the human hand. Artistic Director Es Devlin’s unique staging of the space, one which includes elements such as the use of water, mirrors, and movement, highlights the creativity and expertise of artists showcased, ultimately illuminating their craftmanship. Together, the exhibition spaces trace the many ways in which light influences the artistic process. Core influences of Ibrahim Said’s work are the Egyptian ceramic and architectural traditions of his home country. Motif’s such as relief carvings and dynastic patterns consisting of geometric, anthropologic, and wildlife can be seen throughout his work. The sinuous contours and almost gravity-defying forms of Said’s sculptures dramatically interact with their environment, rendering them a valuable component to Devlin’s curatorial vision for “An Island of Light.”
