The Metropolitan Museum of Art Acquires Works by Alison Rossiter

Museum Acquisition

We are excited to share that The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, NY, has acquired two of Alison Rossiter’s works: Semblance, Man Ray Tapestry (4), 2026, and Expired 1919, 2023.

Semblance, Man Ray Tapestry (4), 2026 and Expired 1919, 2023 are assemblages of expired photographic papers processed by Alison Rossiter from her archive of light-sensitive materials. For both works, she developed and fixed sheets of century-old papers to find subtle traces of photographic silver imagery left by time and circumstance. Semblance, Man Ray Tapestry (4), 2026, was inspired by the artist seeing the original textile piece, Tapestry, 1911, by Man Ray in the 2009 exhibition, Alias Man Ray at the Jewish Museum in New York. Expired 1919, 2023 reflects what may have happened during the year 1919, either in world history or personal memory.
