Nathalie Boutté is neither a photographer, nor sculptor, nor a painter - though her collages embrace all of these methods. Boutté's creations derive from her knowledge of paper and geometric volumes. She cuts long narrow strips of paper, which she patiently assembles one by one to create a feathered effect that continues to evolve. Boutté is self-taught and practices without a specialist degree or artistic training. Instead she has reached a deep understanding of technical processes through the driving force of her passion.
A recent portrait of Boutté's is inspired by an old photography portrait of Peter Jackson - the heavyweight boxer known as the 'Black Prince'. The piece was included in Black Chronicles II organised by Autograph ABP. First exhibited at its space in London, the UK in 2014, the exhibition later travelled to the Ethelbert Cooper Gallery of African & African American Art in Cambridge, the US in 2015, and the Spelman College Museum of Fine Art in Atlanta, the US in 2016.
