Flora Temnouche (French, b. 1991)

Flora Temnouche (b. 1991, France) is a Berlin-based painter whose works are rooted in close observation. Working from the spaces she inhabits, the artist turns her attention to intimate interiors shaped by familiar objects, shifting daylight, and the gradual accumulation of personal belongings. Floorboards, radiators, curtains, clothing, fruit, and open doorways become recurring subjects. Her paintings emerge from lived experience and close observation; rather than reproducing her surroundings precisely, Temnouche uses shifts in color, light, and perspective to intensify the atmosphere of otherwise fleeting moments.

The artist prepares her canvases with gesso and marble dust, sometimes sanding the surface before applying paint. The resulting texture has a worn, hazy quality that recalls the effects of age, even as her subjects remain distinctly contemporary. Scratches, damaged walls, uneven floorboards, and other imperfections are given the same attention as the figures and objects around them. Built gradually in layers, the paintings can retain traces of earlier decisions beneath their surfaces, giving the interiors a sense of accumulated time.

Temnouche draws from a wide range of historical sources. She has cited Pierre Bonnard as particularly important for his use of color, luminosity, and depth, and is also interested in the restrained palette and psychological portraits of Avigdor Arikha and the worn surfaces of ancient frescoes.

Temnouche studied at the Sorbonne before continuing her education at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf. She has presented solo exhibitions at Megan Mulrooney, Los Angeles, CA; Galerie Elsa Meunier, Paris; and Galerie Zeto Art, Paris, France. Her work has also been included in group exhibitions at AplusB Gallery, Vienna and Brescia, Italy; Taymour Grahne Projects, London, United Kingdom; Museo Ebraico di Venezia, Venice; Palazzo Galli Tassi, Florence, Italy; and Kunstpalast Museum, Düsseldorf, Germany, among others. She participated in the Transhumances Residency at Numeroventi, Palazzo Galli Tassi, Florence, Italy. Temnouche’s presentation at The Armory Show 2026 will mark her first at the fair and her first with Yossi Milo
