Work by Cameron Welch is included in Social Abstraction, a two-part group exhibition at Gagosian curated by Antwaun Sargent. On view in Beverly Hills from July 18 - August 30, 2024 followed by a second iteration in Hong Kong from September 10 - November 2, 2024.
Social Abstraction is a group exhibition that brings together an intergenerational group of Black artists to explore the intersection of nonrepresentational art and social consciousness. The works in this show challenge the boundaries between abstraction and figuration, using various materials—such as oil paint, ceramics, textiles, and hair glue—to express themes of identity, perception, and the complexities of lived experience. The exhibition transforms abstract forms into evocative landscapes and cityscapes, while also delving into color, texture, and material to reflect the nuances of personal and collective histories.
Featured in the exhibtion are works by Kyle Abraham, Kevin Beasley, Allana Clarke, Theaster Gates, Cy Gavin, Alteronce Gumby, Lauren Halsey, Kahlil Robert Irving, Devin B. Johnson, Rick Lowe, Eric N. Mack, and Amanda Williams.
