Yossi Milo is excited to invite the public on Saturday, January 20, 2024 at 4 PM EST for a conversation between artist Linus Borgo and author and academic Jack Halberstam. Together, the two will discuss the themes and symbols that run throughout Borgo's solo exhibition, Monstrum, and their intersections with the concepts of Halberstam's work. The event will be held in person and live streamed via Zoom, and a recording of the talk will be made available afterwards.

Jack Halberstam is an academic, author, and Professor of Gender Studies and English at Columbia University known for books such as Female Masculinity (1998), The Queer Art of Failure (2011) and Gaga Feminism (2012), among several others. Places Journal awarded Halberstam its Arcus/Places Prize in 2018 for innovative public scholarship on the relationship between gender, sexuality and the built environment.

On the occasion of Borgo's solo exhibition, Halberstam produced an essay entitled Monstrum: The Portentous Worlds of Linus Borgo. The essay explores Borgo's work through Halberstam's own analysis, touching on the ancient roots of the word monster, Borgo's symbolic and literal references to surgery, and the art-historical lineages that run throughout the exhibition. The essay can be read here on our site.
